The May Line Up

Monday May 19th

A small but very worthy old Champagne house, Philipponnat has been making fabulous Champagne since 1522. The predominant use of Pinot Noir is an indication of the outstanding quality of the wines. We will be tasting the famous Clos de Goisses as well as the rest of the range. Book early £15 per person.

Tuesday May 27th

Hamilton Russell and Bouchard Findlayson; two massive names in SA wine! This area is arguably the coolest and the 'coolest' of all wine regions in SA; the maritime climate, low temperatures and soil types make it ideal for Burgundian varieties. The Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs certainly are some of the best in SA if not in the Southern Hemisphere. Add in Ashbourne, the wonderful Pinotage from Hamilton Russell and the quirky blend Hannibal (Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Shiraz and Pinot Noir!!?) from BF and you have a great mix for a tasting. £20 per person. Don’t miss, book early.

WINE EVENINGS

Martin Meinert Wine Evening - Wed 30 Apr

Meinert Wines is a small (5000 cases) producer form Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. Established in 1997, it is the private venture of former Vergelegen winemaker Martin Meinert, who will visit us and guide us through a tasting of his fabulous premium reds. Martin focuses on two blends, the Devon Crest and proprietor’s blend Synchronicity, both with significant proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon.

His Merlot has also been one of the most popular wines at Vivat Bacchus over the years, as well as being chosen by Nelson Mandela as the wine for his 80th birthday party. Good enough for him … we’ll have it!

Martin has also seen a long and very successful collaboration with Ken Forrester, the fruit of which has been one of South Africa’s most acclaimed wines, The FMC. Here at Vivat we can’t get enough of it, and you need to cross it off your list of things to taste before you die. Ken’s Noble Late Harvest Chenin Blanc ‘T’ is also up for tasting on the evening: a 5 star, utterly luscious dessert wine.

So join us on the 30th of April for an evening of delicious wine and a specially designed 5 course meal. Early booking is recommended.

Jordan Wine Evening - Tue 20 May

Hosted by Gary and Kathy

Gary and Kathy Jordan have long had a very close relationship with Vivat Bacchus; we always get especially excited when they come out to host a dinner with us. Few wineries can boast such an impressive range of wines, although those who know Gary and Kathy will tell you they never boast. Superlative Chardonnay - including single vineyard ‘Nine Yards’, Merlot, Cabernet, and the fabulous Bordeaux Blend ‘Cobblers Hill’.

The tasting starts at 7pm and costs £75 per person. Early bookings is recommended.

Bouchard Finlayson Wine Evening - Wed 21 May

Next year marks two decades since the establishment of this fantastic Walker Bay Estate, which shows no sign of slowing in quality or prestige. The focus of Bouchard Finlayson’s Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) vineyards is Burgundy-inspired. We’ll drink the flagship white Missionvale Chardonnay and the  Galpin Peak Pinot Noir – along with delicious red blend Hannibal, and more…

The tasting starts at 7pm and costs £75 per person. Early bookings is recommended.
