Dear Wine Clubbers,

With February around the corner, this must mean January, along with its back to work blues and detox, is nearly over. Here at VB, however, we started the year with a blast when we tasted the 2004 vintage of Cristal at our first tasting, and what a treat that was! Then followed a taste of good old SA sunshine when we tasted Catherine Marshall's delicious fruit driven wines on the 16th, and we got back to basics with Laura at VB's 'Introduction to Wine Tasting' last night; the perfect refresher course for our busy year ahead. Don't forget there is still time to join us for our last tasting of the month on the 30th where we will warm things up in style with rich red wines and baked cheese treats.

And now for February, the romantic month, we have lined up iconic Rose Champagne producers Billecart-Salmon to guide you through their range on the 6th followed by some delicious desserts, stickies and sparklers for you to taste on the 13th. The 20th will see our first tasting in our Passport of Wine series, with a focus on the Latino charm of South America. Finally the 27th will see Alex Krause from Bonny Doon and Birichino Vineyards come to visit for a not to be missed Wine Dinner.

Monday 30th January
Baking with Cheese and Wine
Vivat Bacchus Farringdon 7.30pm

Fed up of the cold and wintery weather, then come and warm up with us as Head Chef Fred Demary bakes up a selection of cheesy treats and we share some amazingly rich and warming red wines... All that is missing is a burning log fire...

Monday 6th February
Bubbly Time!!! Billecart Salmon 
Vivat Bacchus Farringdon 7.30pm

Iconic producers of Rose, ambassadors of quality and family owned; 'Billecart-Salmon' is a champagne house like none other. Join us as Brand Manager James Thomas tells us more about this boutique producer, from their 100% control of production to their 'secret' blend. And to celebrate Valentine's Day coming up, we will taste not only their Rose from Magnum, but also their Cuvee Elisabeth 1998.

Valentines Tasting: Decadent Desserts, Sparkles and Stickies...

Is that sweet tooth getting the better of you this Valentine's Day? If so, come and indulge with us here at Vivat Bacchus. Fred will be busy in the kitchen making some delicious chocolate truffles, tasty candyfloss and Champagne sabayon, whilst Laura will have a tough job on her hands deciding which Champagnes and delicious dessert wines will be worthy of these sweet treats. Don't miss it; your sweet tooth (and loved one) won't forgive you if you do...

Tuesday 14th February
Valentine's Day Dinner

Once again VB will pull out all the stops with our Valentines day offer. We will be offering a bubbly treat with Head Chef Fred's best efforts to make the most of this romantic evening. We have a 4 course or 6 course menu available; featuring such delights as scallops, caviar, venison and chocolate of course! And there is even a chance to win a trip to Thailand with Billecart Salmon! Please contact the restaurant for more details. Book early, limited seating available.

Monday 20th February
Passport of Wine: South America
Vivat Bacchus Farringdon 7.30pm

After learning the ropes of wine tasting with Laura last month, it is now time to put those skills into practice in our 2012 wine course 'Passport of Wine'. A course that will see us taste our way around the world, discovering each countries signature grapes, hidden gems, and current issues.
As February sees Brazil come to life with its famous carnival, we too thought we would celebrate all things South American. So come join us tonight as we talk Mendoza, Colchagua and Climate, and taste Malbec, Carmenere and Torrontes. We may even slip in a Brazilian Pinot Grigio to toast the carnival in style!

Monday 27th February
Wine Dinner: Bonny Doon and Birichino Vineyards  
Vivat Bacchus Farringdon 7.30pm

Tonight Vivat Bacchus is offering another 2 for 1 exclusive, as Alex Krause joins us from the USA to host a very exciting wine dinner. Alex will not only be telling us about the weird and wacky goings on at Bonny Doon, he will also be introducing to us his exciting new project 'Birichino'. With 'Rhone Ranger' Bonny Doon famous for Cork Funerals through to feuds with Robert Parker, and Birichino being translated in Italian as 'Mischievous', there will be definitely be lots to speak about. But rest assured the wines will speak for themselves as we taste Bonny Doon's flagship 'La Cigare Volant', their unique Albarino and Birichino's much talked about Malvasia over 5 courses of Fred's delicious food. We assure you it will be an evening like none other.
