Vivat Bacchus Wine

We believe life’s too short to drink bad wine, and at Vivat Bacchus, that is impossible. From award winning house wines to the finest aged Bordeaux and more, you are sure to find something worthy of imbibing. We are lovers of the old world as well as the new, but have a soft spot for South Africa thanks to the South African owners. We take pride in our selection, and there is nothing on our list that we would not get stuck into ourselves!

Both restaurants have their own walk-in wine cellars, and you are more than welcome to take the cellar tour and pick out a bottle that is not on the list. We also age large quantities of wine in our vast cellars, ensuring that you don't have to drink wine that isn't completely ready to be drunk.

We sell wine to go, so if you do see something on your list that you fancy we'll offer you up to 50% off the list price if you'd like to take it home. And every month we showcase a winery in our Winery of the Month, offering you the chance to taste three wines by the glass, or as a wine flight. If you require any assistance with your wine selection, please don’t hesitate to ask our knowledgeable staff for advice.

Cellar Selection

Our walk-in cellars are fully stocked with wines from all corners of the globe and with vintages dating back to 1929! Be it Bordeaux first growths, some Spanish hidden gems, or a plethora of age-worthy stickies... you should be able to find it in our cellars.

We also take pride in selling wine when we think it is ready to drink, and several of our best-selling wines are aged on site until they are ready. Ask one of the staff to show you our regularly changing cellar list, or for the full cellar experience take our cellar tour to hand pick your favourite from over 15,000 bottles.

About

The Vivat Bacchus Wine Club, founded in 2005 has been going for nearly a decade! With events held every Monday evening at both our Farringdon and London Bridge branches, the Wine Club is a great way to learn about wine in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our events are suitable for both beginners as well as seasoned tasters, the only thing we ask is that you must like wine!

Each Wine Club event carries a specific theme, whether it is a specific country, a cheese and wine matching session, or a tasting of obscure varieties. Visit our events page to see more details of upcoming events.

We also regularly hold Wine Dinners throughout the year, as part of our continued effort to showcase the outstanding wineries we sell wine from.  Each dinner gives one producer the opportunity to showcase five of their wines over a five-course Vivat Bacchus dinner. These ever popular dinners, held both at Farringdon and London Bridge, gives you the chance to hear from the winemakers themselves, while tasting their wines with a menu specifically made to complement the wines.

Themes

Bubbly time: Got expensive taste? Only like bubbly? Well, this is the evening for you. Featuring Champagnes or sparkling wines and held every month, it is hosted by guest speakers. This is your chance to really tickle your taste buds with some top quality fizz.

VB’s wine & cheese quiz: We like to think of our monthly quiz night as a quiz night with a difference. Where else will you get a glass of wine on arrival, followed by general knowledge, wine and cheese questions, with blind cheese and wine tastings into the bargain?! The winning team gets a bottle of fizz, the runners up a tasty cheeseboard. So grab a team and let battle commence! (Teams of up to six people)

Fine wine: We’ll bring out the very best from the deepest recesses of our cellars; wines that we have aged and are begging to be drunk.

Something from South Africa: we regularly feature our top wineries or grapes and varieties where South Africa has something special to offer.

Master classes, without the label and blending: Be ready to taste wines blind! No, we won’t blindfold you, but the wines will be bagged up in black bags, often with interesting results and full-on debates… or you can come and learn about blending wines – an everyday activity for the wine maker but here you get to try it yourself!

Cheese and wine: What is wine without a bit of cheese to match? And at VB we know all about cheese. Our monthly tastings feature interesting cheeses from close to home or across the globe; from mild to stinky, soft to hard and paired of course with the ideal wines.

Bespoke wine or cheese tastings: You can always design your own wine or cheese tasting experience. From large parties to smaller intimate occasions, our staff are on hand to help you create your perfect event. And it’s not only tastings, why not book a wine blending session where you can learn all about blending wines, and have a go at it yourself?! Click here to see to our private tasting packages or contact us to create a bespoke event. Please provide us with your budget, what type of tasting you are interested in and dates and number of people, and we will prepare a tasting proposal and check availability.

Tastings and dinners

Wine dinners are held throughout the year. These showcase influential wine producers many of whom we have close partnerships with, with wine makers regularly visiting us. You will get the chance to hear from the winemakers themselves while tasting their wines and experiencing a menu specifically designed to complement the wines. Keep an eye out for future events and don’t forget our annual South African wine festival – look out for the dates.
