Vivat Bacchus is an 80-seater fine dining restaurant in the heart of Farringdon. Since the opening in August 2003 it has given the London diner an opportunity to 'get close' to mouth-watering wines from all over the world. The concept of selecting your wine straight from the cellars has proved to be very popular indeed.

the food

Chef Robert Staegemann changes the Modern European menu every 4 - 6 weeks to keep it fresh and seasonal. He gets inspiration from the Pacific Rim, Africa and wherever else his fancy takes him! Simple, elegant, delicious and well-prepared fare takes precedent above all. The 'set lunch' menu offers fantastic value; the 2-course (15.50) menu changes daily, whilst the 'specials' at night is generally red meat orientated. His famous Springbok is always available.

the wine

A strong accent on rare South African wines is the focus of the 5 well-stocked cellars. The owners have had close relationships with many of the Cape's top winemakers for the past 20 years. Being a City restaurant Vivat Bacchus has the necessary French Collection - fabulous vintages of excellent wines - , a great representation of Spain and Italy and the New World. The wine list is almost non-existent here; diners select their wines from the cellars. With more than 20 000 bottles and 1000 labels this is fun! With the constant stream of SA wine personalities visiting us diners are often surprised to find their wines served by the actual winemaker.
